Compressors International company sets new standards for metallurgy

As part of the repair of blast furnace No. 4 at the Azovstal steel plant in 2014, Compressors International implemented a constructive solution and set new standards for the metallurgical industry. All equipment complies with ISO 9001 quality standard, which guarantees reliability and safety.

The implementation of the project included such stages as the terms of reference, design, equipment supply, installation supervision and commissioning, including the establishment of the HMI remote control system, as well as self-commissioning. The main units for the production of compressed air were used centrifugal - Hanwha Power Systems air-cooled compressors model SA2100.

The uniqueness of this solution lies in the fact that centrifugal compressors are designed for harsh operating conditions. The use of air-cooled compressors is today a unique solution. Since the requirements for the quality of process water are completely absent, the reverse cycle systems are replaced.

In the conditions of metallurgical enterprises, water treatment is an expensive process.

On the SA2100 model, a soft start system was applied, it helps to increase the resource, allows you to start and stop the compressor without affecting its overall resource. Design solution: high efficiency and simplified options for low capacity compressors, lack of coolants.

Hanwha Power Systems compressors deliver low operating and maintenance costs with highly efficient components. Wear-resistant materials, such as stainless steel, minimize corrosion and damage, and a simple design reduces maintenance time and cost. A customizable BHA that adjusts the flow to the required amount of air reduces energy consumption. to according to the required amount of air, reduces energy consumption. At the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works a compressed air preparation system was used, which makes it possible to prepare high quality air ISO 1873 Class: 1.2.1. The peculiarity of these dryers is that they are the most energy-efficient equipment that ensures the absence of additional compressed air costs for the regeneration cycles of the adsorption material ( Aluminum oxide Al2O3-97% and Aluminum silicate Al2O5Si - 3%). Compared to classic dehumidifiers, air losses decreased by 30%, and accordingly, energy consumption was reduced by 30%.

The complex of equipment at the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works can ensure the reliability of compressed air supply to the blast furnace units, and it allows operating the main equipment without stops. In the event of a stop of one unit, there is a backup unit, which is commissioned automatically, which ensures uninterrupted supply of compressed air to the blast furnace.

The compressor station, supplied by Compressors International, has 100% automatic process control and allows for automatic start-up of a backup compressor without the involvement of operating personnel. This automatic control system was designed, engineered, and tested by Hanwha Power Systems. All communications and controls occur without human intervention in automatic mode.

Hanwha Power Systems centrifugal compressors are equipped with a large color touch screen that displays all the compressor operation data.

The compressor has a new conceptual automatic control system, which provides monitoring and direct control of system parameters. The system also automatically measures the temperature and discharge pressure, the level of vibration, and receives the data it needs to operate. In the event of problems that may lead to system overload, it reports this and takes measures to eliminate them.
