Description Gardner Denver GDF005L3/8”G compressed air filter (Grade G)

Gardner Denver — a global leader in the manufacture of compressed air systems and treatment solutions — presents the GDF Grade G filter series, designed for reliable protection of pneumatic systems. This is a key component for fine compressed air purification, engineered to remove contaminants that can cause corrosion, equipment damage, and product spoilage.

Grade G — General Purpose / Fine Filtration class. These filters ensure the removal of solid particles down to 0.1 micron and reduce residual lubricant content to 0.1 mg/m³.

Design Features

  • Cast aluminum housing

The housing is manufactured using high-pressure die-casting from a premium aluminum alloy. This ensures a lightweight design, high strength, and compact dimensions. The technology guarantees a uniform material structure and precise filter element seating, eliminating the risk of unfiltered air bypass.

  • Corrosion protection

The housing is protected by anodizing — an electrochemical oxidation process that creates a hard protective layer, increasing resistance to corrosion and mechanical damage. Internal surfaces are further protected by a polymer coating resistant to the aggressive environment of lubricant-water emulsions.

  • Manual condensate drain

The manual drain valve provides simplicity and absolute reliability — featuring minimal moving parts, independence from a power supply, and the ability to visually monitor the nature of the condensate. It is an ideal solution for remote sites and mobile compressor stations.

Operating Technology

Air purification occurs in three stages through a combination of physical laws and innovative element structure:

  1. Inertial Separation: At the filter inlet, the air stream sharply changes direction. Large droplets of moisture and heavy scale hit the walls of the cast housing due to inertia and flow downwards without loading the filter media.
  2. Deep Filtration (Coalescence): Air passes through multi-layered borosilicate glass fiber. Due to the gradient density, particles and lubricant mist down to 0.1 μm are trapped within the depth of the material, where small droplets merge into larger ones and flow to the bottom.
  3. Quiet Zone and Drainage: Separated condensate collects in the lower part of the housing, which is protected from turbulence. This ensures that contaminants are not re-entrained into the air stream. Accumulated impurities are quickly removed via the manual drain valve under system pressure.

Key advantages

High filtration efficiency: Effective removal of particles down to 0.1 μm and lubricant aerosols, protecting critical production processes.

Minimal pressure drop: Less than 0.1 bar on a clean element, directly reducing the compressor's energy consumption.

Energy savings: Optimized design helps avoid excess costs for air compression.

Long element life: A large filtration surface area ensures long service intervals (up to 8,000 hours).

Installation recommendations

For maximum efficiency, GDF Grade G filters are recommended to be installed:

  • After a pre-filter (Grade P): A mandatory requirement to protect the fine element from premature clogging by large particles.
  • Before a refrigerant dryer: To protect the heat exchanger from lubricant film buildup.
  • After the air receiver: To remove condensate and particles that may have formed inside the vessel.
  • At the inlet of critical equipment: As a reliable barrier before pneumatic cylinders, valves, and tools.
