Description Gardner Denver GDF005L3/8”P compressed air filter (Grade P)

Gardner Denver — a global leader in compressor equipment and compressed air treatment systems manufacturing — presents the GDF Grade P filter series, designed for reliable protection of pneumatic systems at the first line of defense. Clean compressed air is a critically important condition for protecting expensive equipment from abrasive wear, ensuring stable pneumatic tool operation, and reducing repair and maintenance costs.

Grade P — a pre-filtration class for primary cleaning of compressed air from coarse contaminants, dust, rust, and scale. The filters provide effective removal of solid particles up to 1 micron in size.

Design features

  • Cast aluminum housing

The housing is manufactured by die-casting from high-quality aluminum alloy. This ensures lightweight construction, high strength, and compact dimensions. The technology guarantees uniform material structure and precise filter element seating, eliminating bypass (breakthrough) of unfiltered air.

  • Corrosion protection

The housing is protected by anodizing — electrochemical oxidation creates a hard protective layer that increases resistance to corrosion and mechanical damage. Internal surfaces are additionally protected with a polymer coating resistant to the aggressive environment of oil-water emulsion.

  • Manual condensate drain

The manual drain valve ensures simplicity and absolute reliability — minimum moving parts, independence from electrical power, and the ability to visually monitor condensate characteristics. This is an ideal solution for remote sites and mobile compressor stations.

Operating technology

Air cleaning occurs in three stages through the combination of physical laws and innovative element structure:

  1. Inertial separation: At the filter inlet, the airflow sharply changes direction. Large moisture droplets and heavy scale strike the cast housing walls by inertia and flow downward, without loading the filter material
  2. Depth filtration: Air passes through multi-layer fiberglass. Due to gradient density (outer layers — loose, inner layers — dense), dust and rust particles up to 1 µm are trapped not on the surface, but within the material thickness itself. This ensures free air passage and minimal pressure drop.
  3. Quiet zone and drainage: Separated condensate collects in the lower part of the housing, which is protected from turbulence. This guarantees that contaminants will not be picked up by the airflow again. Accumulated contaminants are quickly removed through the manual drain valve under pressure.

Key advantages of this model

Minimal pressure drop — less than 0.1 bar on a clean element, which directly reduces compressor energy consumption.

Energy savings — every 0.14 bar of excess pressure drop increases energy costs by 1%.

Element longevity — large filtration area and progressive material structure ensure extended replacement intervals (up to 8000 hours).

Comprehensive protection — a reliable barrier for protecting dryers, regulators, valves, and pneumatic cylinders.

Installation recommendations

For maximum efficiency, GDF Grade P filters are recommended to be installed:

After the water separator — the best position for pre-filtration.

Before the refrigerated dryer — to protect the heat exchanger from contaminants.

After the air receiver — to remove rust and scale particles.

At critical equipment inlet — as additional local protection.
